In this article, we'll be highlighting the arduous and little-known work of these snow artisans, the piste groomers, and we'll also be exploring an unusual activity offered by Les Menuires booking center: the groomer ride.
The unsung artisans of the ski slopes
When the first snowflakes fall and winter sports fans flock to the mountains to hit the slopes, a team of discreet but crucial professionals spring into action.Groomer drivers, often in the shadows of ski resorts, play an essential role in preparing the slopes to ensure optimum skiing conditions. The piste service and its snow groomer drivers prepare the pistes at the start of the season. Their field of activity? Les Menuires and Saint-Martin-de-Belleville ski areas.
As true snow technicians, the drivers pilot a tracked machine equipped with accessories such as a front blade, turbine, winch or rear tiller. In the run-up to the season, with the arrival of the first snow, they track the slopes to get the cold into the snow.
Most of the time, they work at night or very early in the morning, depending on the last snowfall. Their job? To prepare the slopes for the next day's skiers. They drive alone over all the parts of the snowpack that need to be treated.
💡 In summer, they profile the slopes to fill in the holes and make a beautiful run.

9 pm: return to the garage
